Scholarships and Work Study

It is not easy to come up with money to go to cool places and paint. I know that because I did the same thing. Over the years I have visited many artist colonies and worked to pay off most of my stay and believe it is key to balancing your life as a creative to learn to work hard at the same time. For some artists, this is may be the only way to get to do something like this and I applaud anyone who gives it a shot. We have a small foundation devoted to scholarships that we can give away and they are not based on any one thing, especially not how "good" you are, but how right a fit it is.

Here are three options, but get creative! You teach yoga? Maybe we can shave some money off and you can hold classes while you are here. You are a great baker? Make cakes the weeks you are here. My point is you are creative so make it happen for yourself. Every professional artist knows one thing and that is you have to work hard and take the opportunites when they are offered or you won't be one for long.

Laundry by Laura Loe

Laundry and Housekeeping

You will work an average of 4 hours daily with longer hours on days we have to change the rooms over for new artists, with the rest of your time devoted to working on your art.  Artists who like to fold and vacuum are the best fit for this kind of job. It is not necessary to have cleaning or laundry skills before you apply to do this, but if you hate laundry and cleaning then maybe pass. To be honest, our laundry room is a staff hub and a everyone learns to fold a mean fitted sheet. There is a longer job description that can be sent if you are interested, but contact me with you interest and we can start there laura@lauraloe.com. Partial or Full Scholarships are available. Early application is key. This job is physical, so please keep that in mind when applying. Deadline 3/5/17

Teal Cabin by Laura Loe

Outdoor Work/Carpentry

Nimrod was built many moons ago in 1783. The carpentry is literally ongoing as the building we use are old and there is an old summer camp we hope to spruce up. The grass also continues to grow and weeds just keep sprouting. We are looking for people who enjoy being in a garden environment but not in a floppy hate deadheading roses way (although that also gets done) but in a "we will keep these flowers alive despite no rain" way. You do not have to be a guy to do this but you have to know how to get around tools and be willing to be taught to drive a good old riding lawn mower. Which can be very fun, actually. For this job, we have some space to buy yourself time in the later spring to come back and paint in the summer. Again, email me.  laura @lauraloe.com Full or Partial Scholarships. Deadline 3/5/17

Professional Scholarships

I am an artist who loves other artists . Want to come and paint for a week? Then send me an email and we can try to work something out. My goal with Nimrod Hall, aside from my selfish love of painting here, is meeting and getting to know other painters. For this scholarship painting needs to be your main occupation and a good amount of experience will be pivotal to acceptance. Beginning painters will not be considered. For payment we offer a full scholarship of a 5 day week in the week that has space, to be agreed upon, and ask that the artist donate a piece of their work to Nimrod Hall that is either done at the time of their residency or another piece that is agreed upon. It is exciting and fun to have professional artists discover Nimrod Hall. It is one of the most magical places on earth.  A studio will be provided. If you are interested, email me. laura@lauraloe.com Deadline 3/5/17
